Like many small towns in North Carolina's Piedmont region, Mooresville got its start as a farming community. Here, the main cash crop was cotton, and the location was chosen because of its fertile land, and its close proximity to a large natural well. The railroad came through in the mid-1850s, and an enterprising planter named John Franklin Moore built a depot on his land. Before too long, a small village had grown up around the depot, and Mooresville was born. These days, the once quiet agrarian village of Mooresville is known as "Race City USA." This town of more than 30,000 people is home to over 60 NASCAR teams and related businesses, and an INDYCAR team. The North Carolina Auto Racing Hall of Fame and the Memory Lane Motorsports and Historical Automotive Museum are popular local attractions. Another thing that Mooresville residents love about their city is its close proximity to Lake Norman State Park. At the lake, locals and visitors enjoy swimming, boating, waterskiing, fishing, and more. It's no wonder that Mooresville is growing so fast. It's close to Charlotte, has diverse employment opportunities, and offers an excellent quality of life to residents.
